This morning at 9:20 AM Dottie passed away. Please pray for strength - and don't be sad, Dottie wouldn't want that. In fact at 5pm grab a glass of wine (preferrably pinot grigio, with a glass of ice) and toast to her!

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, March 29th at 2:00 PM. It will be held at the Belleair Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Susan G Komen for the Cure or Morton Plant Mease Foundation.

Any updates or information will be posted to this blog as it arises. The family thanks you for all the support you have given Dottie and to them during this difficult time.

Keith, Laura, Jake & the Clark Family, I will always treasure my friendship with Dottie and watching all the special events in all your lives unfold in the most beautiful and classy scrapbooking pages I have EVER seen. I'm so glad she was such an avid scrapper and documented all the celebrations with her family. She always talked with great love for you Keith and her kids and especially the grandchildren. I feel so blessed for having been a part of her love for her family, her life and her passion for scrapbooking. I will greatly miss her - thank you for sharing her with me - Love, Verna Benson

Dottie was not only an inspiration who showed us how to live life, but she showed so very many how to hold one's head up and live in spite of illness.

I will always appreciate her kindness and encouragement!

I only met Dottie once - at my son Tim's wedding to Kendra Stanton - now my beloved daughter-in-law. Dottie was full of life and had a great sense of humor. I enjoyed her warmth and smiles. We each read a selection at Tim and Kendra's wedding, and enjoyed each other's company during that joyous and love-filled weekend in Boston. I was deeply saddened to learn of her brave struggle with cancer and her passing. I am honored to raise a glass of wine to her, and I know she is in a better place celebrating the triumph of her spirit! My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends who loved her.

Keith, Laura, Jake and Family, I never got to know Dottie when I was an adult but have vivid memories of her when I was growing up - from swimming in your pool on Williams Ct. to climbing to the top of The Statue of Liberty in New York to sunning in Florida. She always had a smile on her face no matter how difficult all of us kids could be. She was a wonderful person and an exceptional mom. She will truly be missed by all of us and has a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prays are with you. Love, Holly Croll Pfister

If you're reading this, then you, too, were touched by the light, love & friendship of Dottie. These gifts she gave us are meant to be passed on - so send them out into the world in her honor. This is what she wanted, to be remembered with love.

I never had the opportunity to meet Dottie, but her dear friend Paula spoke of her fondly. And from reading her blog, I was always in awe of how she lived her life, with full of vigor.

In Dottie's honor, I toast to her with a glass of pinot grigio in hand. Peace be with you.

Dottie hosted me several times at her beautiful home....we called the guestroom The Weinberg Suite when I stayed there...it was always a fun joke !
My holiday card one December was taken in front of her gorgeously decorated Xmas tree. I remember spending hours looking through her fabulous scrapbooks and altered books...Dottie did everything with a beautiful flair and she was a beautiful lady.
This is for you Dottie...

In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we will remember you.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we will remember you.

In the opening buds and in the rebirth of spring, we will remember you.

In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer, we will remember you.

In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we will remember you.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we will remember you.

When we are weary and in need of strength, we will remember you.

When we are lost and sick at heart, we will remember you.

When we have joys we yearn to share, we will remember you.

So long as we live, you too shall live, as we remember you

Knowing Dottie was such a blessing! She was so very full of life and love and spunk and humor, someone unlike anyone any of us has ever known. I will miss her greatly.

I remember the first time that I met Dottie, she waltzed in my store and announced to me that she liked it here, I was OK and she would be back. As always, Dottie kept her word. Unless she and Keith were out of town, Dottie would drop by the store 2-3 times a week, never staying very long, but enough to bring the world to me. She would drop by to share her precious "craft treasures" with me that she found at the latest estate sale and show me the latest piece of art she was working on or had created. No matter what craziness was going on in her life, she always asked about others and had a smile on her face. I will miss you dearly Dottie, and will always treasure the time we spent together. You were one classy lady and I was the lucky one who got to know you! Until I see you again, may our Guardian Flamingo angel watch over you in heaven.

Dottie has indeed led a life that has been so enriched, so well traveled and so full of wonderful friends and family. She reached out to everyone she knew....she had such an incredible spirit. Although I'm extremely saddened as along with everyone else I know that she is at peace....she has learned the lessons as well as taught the lessons she needed to. God speed my friend. I love you. MAMBO......the twin to SWAMBO.

You said you prefered to go first.. well BRAT.. you did and I'm broken hearted. I will miss you terribly, but I will remember you in all that was our wonderful cyber friendship, Buddy.

Dottie . . . you were the one that first embraced me when I arrived at the Embassy Suites for the first RCS Getaway . . . you were the one that dubbed me AR because you didn't want to type AnnaRobyn each time . . . you were the one that traded clubhouse golf visors with my mother . . . you were the one that inspired me and many others to never give up. I honor the brief time we had together and will never forget your laugh. Cyber hugs to you and yours.

The Dottie We Loved
March 13, 2008

Into my life
Dottie appeared
Lost track of how long ago
But I know it’s been years

Artists at heart
We fast became friends
Shopping, creating
Antiques that would never end

Soon things were altered
Embellished and popped
Onto old ledger sheets
Coffee crystals were dropped

Vintage in nature
Encased in a box
Couldn’t walk holding our heads up
Cause we were looking for rocks

Anything old
Rusted in tin
Gave us goosebumps and shivers
Diving into bins

Then we’d go home
Share all our stash
Challenge each other
To make a mix-mash

Dottie always finished
Her project before me
Then pestered and teased
Til I begged “let me be”

Lace and buttons
Antique images, some thread
Dottie could make anything
Especially with red

I love you girl
What fun we had
Should have said it more often
I didn’t know it was this bad
I came to the hospital
To see you one last time
I needed to touch you
And say my goodbyes

I loved you with makeup
Or tears on your face
Sweatpants or Nillas
Tee shirts or lace

It’s not about the outside
But the inside that counts
Robert Hall or Nordies
Not what it’s about

Your friends you did art with
We all know the real you
It’s the person we loved
Since the first day at Ruban Rou

Every March 12th
We’ll gather to toast
Our beloved Dottie Clark
Hope you’ll be with us and be my angel ghost

I will love you forever

Dottie is one of those friends that has made an everlasting impression on my life. She was authentic. She was a brilliant artist and passionate person about life. I am a richer person having had her touch my life. We are all very blessed to have known her.

I am someone who did not know Dottie personally, but who was inspired by her from viewing her blog. Someone who prayed for her and her family as she dealt with the challenges in her life. I feel priviledged to have had a glimpse into the life of someone who lived life to the fullest, in spite of the obstacles that may have lied in front of her, someone who treasured life so much. I hope she knew how many lives she has touched and inspired, including those who she did not even know. God Bless you and your family.

I considered Dottie a real friend and will miss her terribly. She was a real hoot and had so much love for life! I agree that she would not want us to mourn for her, however much we MISS her. She is always in my heart and my wishes that her family be well.

Dottie was always a bright light to all those she was around. Her zest for life was always shinning. She always talked of her family with such love, she just beamed when she talked of her grandchildren. I'll always remember Dottie dancing around in the fountains at the City walk in Orlando loving life...

Dottie bought her Nillas at my shop. It was always a good day when she stopped in to get a pair and have a visit. Her bubbly enthusiasm for life always made for a FUN conversation. The girls who work for me were crushed to hear of her passing, as am I. We will never forget you Dottie!

We knew Dottie through her daughter, Laura who inherited her zest for life and personality.

We have raised our wine glass to her as she continues a different journey watching over her beloved family and friends from a different view.

To Dottie's Family:
I knew Dottie from our card-making workshops at Wilde-Ideas: always smiling, abundantly creative and extremely talented. Heaven's gain is our loss - but nothing that is loved is ever lost; no one who has touched a life, who has brought beauty to the world, is ever truly gone. Those we cherish, will always live on in memory. My sincere condolences.

Oh Dottie...I'll miss knowing that you're not sharing the planet with us. The world is now a different place.
You were one-of-a-kind, for sure - like no one I'd ever known or met before. Unique, strong, smart, classy, fun, funny, talented, generous and mostly, HONEST! I know for a fact that you fought the good fight, but God called on you that this was your time.
The multitude of friends and family will miss you so very much, but I know that I'll forever be glad I joined RCS at the very beginning back 10 years ago and met you at the Getaways and RAN THROUGH THOSE FOUNTAINS like a couple of crazies!!! WOW!! What fun we had!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for being you!!

Dottie, I only knew you for a few years, but I could tell from that first altered book class we were in at Treasure Cay that you were someone special. We shared a love of old quilts and lace and altering all sorts of things. I feel very priviledged to have known you and to have been a small part of your life. I will always think of you and smile as I glue on one more old button or tattered piece of lace. It's a sure thing that whenever we gather to stamp or decoupage or alter something, your spirit will be there guide and encourage us as you always did. I will miss your smile and that wonderful spirit that shone thru your eyes. To your family I send my heartfelt sympathy, I will keep them in my heart and prayers. Farewell and godspeed dear friend!

The first time I had met Dottie was a trip to Florida with my very good friend Reese, who had baby sat for Laura and JK. From the first time we met it was as tho we had known each other for years. Her hospitality, humor, her love of bears that she so generously shaared with Reese, her laugh and gregarious way of meeting people, to name just a few. Keith was such a perfect match and blend for her. We shared many other trips to Florida, including Keith's BIG birthday extravaganza!!! What a total blast and Dottie took extreme pleasure in planning EVERY moment of it. I haave prayed all along for what was best for Dottie. This just tells me that God needed her presence to keep heaven a happy place.I'm sure she can teach even the Lord a few things! God bless you Keith, Laura, and JK> We were all blessed to have her in our lives. Love Jim and Margo Potter

I know Dottie wouldn't want us to be sad, but the truth is...we're sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dottie's family and friends who will miss her vivacious personality, joyous laughter, quick wit,and tremendous love of life. She truly ADORED her family and lived life to the fullest. I'll never forget the fun we had from California to Oregon, Canada to Arkansas...Dottie always made being together such a kick! May you rest in peace sweet friend. Keith, Laura, Jake, Jessica, Ryan and April, my heart goes out to you all. Huge hugs being sent your way.

To the best "MIL" Mother-in-Law a girl could ever have. The day jake brought me over and introduced me to you in December of 2001. I knew we had a connection. You touched my heart and that beautiful smile, and the warm hug you gave me when jake and i left the house that night.I can't even imagine how my world will be with out you present. you will always be with me in my heart and soul. But not being able to see you. I love you so much, words can't describ. I will always take care of your precious jake..

April - I don't know how else to communicate this to you, so I hope you read this. I never met you, but Dottie spoke of you all the time. She told all her friends how much you meant to her & that she loved you as a daughter. I know she was grateful for Jake having found you. Thank you so much for all the love, care & attention you gave Dottie. I know she felt you were the best 'DIL' too! Daphni

Our family would like to thank each and everyone of you who could make it for the "Celebration of Life"for Mil (Dottie)on March 29th. We know some of you could not attend. But we know your hearts and hugs were with us. It was a wonderful turn out. It was nice to have it where she shared a lot of great gatherings with special friends. It was her favorite comfort zone. I sit here today at TGH with jake,he is getting better. I called my mil's cell phone just like i always do to give her an up-date, and cried for a moment well it was more like a few moments....It seems like such a fog. There was a special friend who came and picked me up for lunch today and we sat and talked about the wonderful joy she brought into people's life. I miss her so much as everyone does..I love you and miss you mil

Dear Keith, Laura and JK,

For some reason tonight I typed "dottie and keith clark, florida" into google and I came across your blog.

I am so sorry to hear of Dotties passing and our thoughts are with you,Keith, for the loss of your wife and with you,Laura & JK for the loss of your mum, and to all the grandchildren.

It has been around 14 years since I last saw Dottie & Keith but nearer 30 years (!) since I last saw Laura & JK and my memories of Dottie (and of you all) will always be treasured as she truly was my "american mum"

I have given the news to my own mum who is devastated and will probably try and call you Keith at some time.

Love and best wishes,
